I have a 97 buick skylark with 209,000 miles and my check engine light is on. every morning I crank up the car and it runs fine, but after about 30 minutes of driving it will start to jerk when I hit the gas pedal Like its not getting any gas, and then my chck engine light starts blinking. Then after a little while it gets back up to speed and at normal. It also goes dead after I let it sit for about ten minutes running(pressing the gas at the same time) what can be the cause of the proble,? I went to auto zone to check my check engine light and the results read....Cylinder Misfire detected...powertrain control module monitors crankshaft speed and detected a misfire...and it also said ignition system fault(spark plugs, ignition wires, coils. I dont know anything about cars. What should I check first?

We need to look at a few things. First, when was the last tune up?

The car havent had a tune-up in a while and I just. I had one of my service mechanics down the street and he put on a fuel filter air filter and used throttle cleaner. but the problem stills happens and a couple people told me that it might be the spark plugs or ignition coil. Because it just cut off on me last night when I was driving for about thirty minutes. Then I had to let the car cool down for 45 minutes before it would crank up again.

I would suggest checking the pugs and wires. If it has been a long time, it may be a good idea to replace plugs and wires as a preventative mainenance tune up to see if it helps. I it doesn't, then I would move to the crankshaft sensor.
