Access To Alternator Charging Posts

.what model skylark do you have and ill get you the information you need.

its a 1997 skylark gran sport 3.1 v6

also i figured it out, but if a may ask a different question instead

i was reinstalling the alternator,
the cooling shroud wouldnt fit properly
i realized the shroud has a tab that secures to the underside of the alternator

i was attempting to pop the tab into the correct position with my screwdriver

my screwdriver slipped and i slipped and shorted the alternator charging post against the engine block

sparks flew

i should add that the negative battery terminal was DISCONNECTED the entire time.

i had to leave for work so, i reinstalled the alternator

i checked the voltage at the front battery while the car was running and the voltage read 14.2v which should be normal

is it possible i didnt damage the alternator?
how can i test it?

i have a very high power audio system installed and the voltage meter in the car reads normal 14.5- 14.2v while driving

i played my system at full tilt, and experienced normal voltage drop

is my alt ok did i get lucky, or am i in trouble?

To test the alternator you can start the car let it idle turn your head lights on high beams on turn on your a/c on and see what your voltage is.let me know what your voltage is sounds like your ok though.

well, with the car running at about 1k rpms
parked in the drive,

lights n high beams on
a/c on
stereo up a little bit, my voltage in car reads 14.6 back at the amplifier

voltage at front battery under the hood read 14.6

i took the alternator out and am running it up to autozone right now

what do you think?

How do you remove the alternator for replacement ?

REMOVAL: Disconnect the negative battery cable. Label and disengage the electrical connections from the alternator. On the 2.5L engines, loosen the adjusting bolts and remove the alternator belt. If equipped with a serpentine belt, loosen the tensioner and turn it counterclockwise to remove the belt. Unfasten the alternator mounting bolts, then detach the alternator air inlet connector (3.1L engine only) and remove the alternator from the engine. INSTALLATION: Fasten the alternator to the mounting bracket, using the retaining bolts, washers and nuts. Tighten the retainers to the specifications listed in the accompanying figures.

If equipped with the 3.1L engine, attach the alternator air inlet connector. Install the serpentine or alternator belt, as applicable. For details, please refer to of this information. Engage the alternator electrical connections. Tighten the "Bat" terminal nut to 65 inch lbs. (7 Nm). Check the belt tension, then adjust if necessary. Connect the negative battery cable, then check the alternator for proper operation.
