1967 Buick Skylark

By meaning it won't crank i am assuming that it will not turn over. If the starter doesn't turn the engine over there are a few things that can cause this. When you try to start do you hear a lound clunk? This may mean that the starter is engaging but won't work. Or do you hear a "click". Tha usually means the cellonoid is not passing juice to the starter. YOU can pull this off and take it to an auto parts store and they can check the draw. Telling whether it is good or bad. If the starter is good and you still hear the loud clunk then more info is needed. as there are a few other possiblilities.

No it cranks over but does not start....it sometimes puffs but nothing big......im thinking it might be a timing issue

If it puffs but nothing else, then there is agood possiblilty that the timing chain has jumped one or two teeth. Bring your timing mark on the harmonic balancer up to about 0 and #1 to tdc. Then open the distriburor cap and see if your Rotor tip lines up with the #1 firing position. If the chain is off then this won't be the case. Also you can also check the compression if you have a guage and if the compresssion is low----- below #100 then that is also a good indicator that the chain is slipped a notch or two. Also on this car if you do end up changing the timing chain, there is a a kit from MELLING that you can put a larger oil pump into the ousing and would be very beneficial to do that........

Yeah checked the timming on the balancer and its set right.... distr. also but i might see what happens if i move it a hair... ill check for conpression nect...just gotta but a gadge
