I HAVE A 2003 BUICK RENDEZVOUS...70,000 MILES, 3.4 LITER ENGINE.....WHEN I FIRST RUN THE CAR THE ENGINE TEMP WILL GO REALLY HIGH,(NO HEAT COMING FROM THE HEATER) THEN AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME, AT HIGHER SPEEDS IT WILL DROP DOWN, A LITTLE BELOW NORM, AND I WILL GET HEAT AGAIN...WHEN I GO INTO SLOWER SPEEDS IT WILL GO BACK TO HIGH ENGINE TEMPS(NO HEAT)..SOMETIMES IT WILL GO DOWN AND HEAT BACK ON WHILE DRIVING SLOWER SPEEDS BUT NOT OFTEN.. THE COOLANT LEVEL IS FINE... IT JUST STARTED THIS YESTERDAY..WANT TO HEAD OFF FUTURE BIGGER PROBLEMS TO HIGH ENGINE TEMP, BLOWN HEAD SEAL GASKET..FUSES ARE ALL GOOD ALSO.

Remove radiator cap with car cold. Have someone else crank, and if coolant gets expelled that means compression is getting into coolant. Likely intake gasket.

Get it to a repair shop quick. Sounds like a thermostat. Get ready for a set of intake gaskets. They all go out somewhere around 70 to 80 thousand miles.
