1990 Buick Riviera no crank when ignition is turned

My car was working fine and then all of a sudden I could not start the car. This has happened once before when I could not get the car to start. It would crank but would not start, so I disconnected the battery for a while ,shortly after I then reconnected the battery and the car started just fine. check the starter
check battery + terminals
check neutral safety switch
check alarm system
