Hello, When I make a hard turn to the left, steering to the lock, I hear a loud clicking noise coming from the front tire. I am pretty sure that is an indication of a CV joint that needs to be replaced. My question is how difficult of a repair is this. I am a mechanical person and typically do my own car work. I am not sure about the CV joint though. How much disassembly is needed on this. Any major components in the way of taking this out and replacing the entire half shaft? Do I need to remove the main hub bolt to do this? Thanks for any help that you can provide. If you think it is not the CV joint, please let me know what else it could be. Thanks again.

It is a very simple repair. The axle nut on the hub does have to come off. Check out our online repair manuals to get detailed instructions on the repair.

It sure does sound like a CV joint.
Yes you have to remove the hub.
It might not be a do at home job.
There are several special tools that make th job a lot easier like a hub removal tool (puller) and a type of slide hammer that makes removing the half shaft a lot easier. The job can be done with no special tools and if you do it yourself you will be happy to accomplish it.
