Hi there,
This is more than likely the cause, but get a scan first to see what set fault codes or in the ECU, start here.

I have a 1998 Buick Regal GS. Recently, my ABS and Trac Off light began to stay on all the time. It also seems like the brakes drag occasionally. I checked it with an ABS code reader and got all of the following codes:

C1236 Low System Voltage
C1286 ECBM Module turned on Red Brake Lamp Warning Light

I have a brand new battery in the car. The voltage off reads 12.8 and the voltage with it running is around 13.9. I do have a parts car so I can swap parts fairly easily.

If I had the money to take it to a dealership

It turned out to be a bad ABS relay.

The brakes wouldn't cause it. Chances are there is a sensor going bad. Have the computer scanned at a nationally recognized parts store. Most will do it for free, and then you'll know what the problem is.

LEt me know what you find.

Brakes problem
1996 Buick Regal 6 cyl Automatic 104000 miles

My Aunt has a 96 Regal and last night while driving home her brake light came on along with the ABS light. This was after driving about 2 miles. She pulled into a friends stopped the vehicle turned it off and cycled the ignition a few times and both lights went off . She started home and about 1 mile into the drive the ABS light came on again and stayed lit till she arrived home. I have not had time to go and inspect her vehicle yet since she lives out of town. But was trying to get some leads before I head over there on Tuesday. So any and all hints or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

First make sure the brake fluid is full. Also, there could be a loose wire on one of the sensors. You may want to have the computer scanned to determine where the problem is starting from.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Well she called me last night to inform me that it is no longer on. Apparently she carry's her purse in the floor board next to her leg. And it had bumped the E-Brake just a tiny bit. Because when she went out and pulled up on the E Brake like I suggested while releasing it the lights went off. Thanks for the suggestions I will keep them in mind if she calls again.

Not a problem. It sounds like something that would happen around here.

I back out of a parking spot, put the car in drive, and take my foot off the brake. As soon as I begin to take off, I hear a light metallic sound(under dash?), and then the ABS light comes on and stays on until I kill the engine. Upon restarting, light is not on. On rare occurrences, it does not come on at all. Brakes are not worn and car will stop on a dime without breaking loose. Fluid level is fine. Need to get car inspected, but since ABS is a safety feature, it probably would not pass.

Without the benifit of scanning with the tech I scan tool, you need to inspect the wiring, the relutor rings at the wheels, the connections(for water intrusion) and the module for leaks. You can test the sensors at the wheels with an ohm meter. Test across the two terminals by unplugging the connector. Test ohms forst, then switch to volts ac, spin wheel and you should get voltage reading, the faster you spin, the higher the reading. Replace any with no or incorrect reading. Scan first if possible!
