cannot remove key from ignition after running car. must wait a few minutes and jiggle shift selector. what's going on?

Good afternoon,
The shifter must be completed in the park in order for the key to be removed. If it is not, the key will not be able to be removed.
I attached some pictures below of the position switch on top of the transmission. Make sure the cable is secured. I circled the area that is common for wearing out.
I also included the procedure for adjusting the switch as well.
