1999 Buick Regal Key Gets Stuck in Column

I have a 1999 Buick Regal with 94,000 miles on it. Most of the time it works fine, but sometimes the key won't go all the way to the off position, so my key won't come out of the column. It happens much more in the heat. I have tried turning the key repeatedly and works sometimes, restarted the car and sometimes that works, and slid the shifter back and forth and that works sometimes too. I am wondering is there something that needs to be replaced/fixed because when the key doesn't come out if I leave my car sit for more that 2 days the battery goes dead because the odometer and gear screen stay on.
