weird knocking noise

i have a 92 park avenue its got approx 350,000 kms on it. i recently hit the dicth with the car. a few days after hitting the ditch , the motor started a really loud knocking noise. it only knocks when its idling and stops when u rev up. What could be wrong?

before assuming it's an internal engine knock, check all the pulleys for play, (including the water pump). a bad bearing , (i.e. water pump), can make a knocking noise which the sound will amplify through the engine.
