1995 buick park avenue, 145000 miles, 3.8 non-supercharged

Car has a persistant problem and I can not seem to trace it down, only code I can get out of it reads bad knock sensor, at cold start up it is sluggish, and has a miss when throttle is applied, the longer you drive, the worse it gets, eventually it will only pull itself just off idle, then it starts stumbling, and it always eventually dies, if you run it in park and hold the accelerator to the floor it will hit the rev limiter a few times and slowly start fading out, almost like the fuel pressure is going down, it has a new fuel pump, I have ran it at night while this problem has been occuring, if you run it for a while (if you can keep it running) the manifolds will start to glow, it makes some sense to me that a knock sensor would retard the timing causing the manifolds to get hot, but I can't help but think there is something else causing it to stumble and run as bad as it does. Does this sound like something a knock sensor would cause? thanks for any help.
