Our transmission sometimes shifts hard (like it has a shift kit) through all gears. No slipping is felt. Per the tach, it shifts at the same shift points whether shifting hard or normal.
No trouble codes
does not seem to matter if drivetrain is cold or at full operating temp.
Just changed the filter and 7.4 qts of fluid, there was some metal on the magnet but nothing to be alarmed about and the the fluid was just on the brown side of red. Smelled ok.
What might be the problem? Should I be concerned or just drive it till it throws a code?

If you have it scanned with a Tech2, it will probably show a P1811 code. I would recommend a new fluid pressure switch and pressure control solenoid in the trans.
