Installing TP Sensor?

Late last year, I installed a new TP sensor because my idle wasn't working right. (I won't get in to the old problem).

When I installed it, the idle was WAY to high, at around 2000 RPM's. I installed it again but the with the second attempt, I installed it in a counter clockwise position, and with the sensor still in the 'slot', I turned it, so the screws were lined up. So in effect, the throttle cable was not in the default position.

Although the car drives better with the new TP sensor, the idle has always been too low and the car surges in 4th gear. So I'm wondering if I should have installed the TP sensor the way I did the first time, and PRESUMBABLY, the computer would adjust the idle after awhile...And stay that way. The service manual for my car says to make sure the cable is in the default position, as well.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

The only adjustment for idle speed is by resetting the IAC valve pintle position, do this by turn the key to ON then to off for 10 seconds the start the car...repeat if proper idle is not obtained. TPS is not adjustable but may need a relearn. TPS relearn, Turn key on engine off. wait one minute and turn ignition off wait an additional 15 seconds.

Thanks! Do you think the way I installed the TPS was right or wrong?

Here is the correct way to install the TPS, it self calibrates over a few miles of driving. This guide may help you with the high idle problem.
