1999 Buick Park Avenue 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 119 th miles

I purchased new rear pads. When attempting to press the piston back into the caliper it stopped a quarter of an inch short of being flush with the caliper housing. With pads in place the caliper would not fit over the pads during reassembly. Was I sold the incorrect pads or is there some method to get the piston to go the quarter inch deeper.

you need to use a spanner wrench in the caliper piston slots to rotate the piston until it is bottomed in the caliper.

I agree with bluelightning, You have to use a special tool to turn or thread the rear calipers into the recessed position.

The front calipers can simply be compressed, but the rear need to be turned in.
