whgen I go to turn my car on to crank it the security light comes on and stays on steady after aboiut 3 minutes it goes off and sometimes the car will crank and sometimes not after several 3 minute waits it eventually cranks

The security system is shutting the engine down. I hate to say it but it needs to go to a dealer to have it properly diagnosed. They are the only ones with the proper equipment. If you have a spare key, try that to see if it makes a difference. The old one may be going bad.
