2002 buick lasabre. Starter will not turn when the ignition switch is used. It clicks once and the engine trys to turn over. When I bypass the switch by using a remote strarter button attached to the solenoid, the engine turns over and if the key is in the run position the car will start. When the car is in park or neutral, I get the click, if in gear, no click. Assuming the park/neutral position switch is working properly. Removed the starter and had it bench checked, checked good. No codes or lights are showing. What do I check/replace next.

I'd check the small purple wire at the starter solenoid, should be hot with the key in the crank position. I'd also check the feed circuits to the starter relay in the underhood fuse-box.

I removed the purple wire from the solenoid and got a small amount of voltage (cant remember what it was) but it was not 12 volts. I swapped all relays that were labeled starter or ignition with others and still same problem. All fuses check good. Did not check the feed voltage to relays because if the engine pulleys turned some, then voltage is making it to the solenoid, just not enough to crank it. I will go back and check the feed voltage.

All circuit voltages for the relays are good. The purple wire at the solenoid has 0 volts.

The purple wire comes from the crank relay, if the crank relay is energized, the purple wire should be hot. The pcm grounds the crank relay. I can't tell if something may be going on with the theft system?
