Hi:
I have what is my 4th GM car with the 3800/(3.8L) motor. My other cars with same engine were Buicks and oldsmobiles. They all had 1 thing in common. They jumped timing between 125000-138000 miles. Is this customary to GM timing chains? I am going on a trip soon and will drive this Buick. Do you recommend timing chain replacement at certain intervals or just drive it til it jumps timing. Thanks

Hi there,

I would be having the chain & tensioner and or rails inspected for wear and stretch, and if found to be faulty have it replaced.
