My 3800 Buick got a timing chain and gears installed. On the inside of the timing cover I removed the plate that holds the 2 oil pump gears, one inside the other. I removed the smaller inside one and noticed it has a factory dimple on the innner surface. (Dimple is the same as those on the crankshaft and camshaft gears that we line up when installing timing.) Question is does this oil pump gear need to be installed on the car in any position in reference to my timing gears? Turning the pump gears puts the position of the smaller gear in different positions in relation to the larger.. Does it matter how it goes on the car? Thanks.

Nope, it doesnt matter. But I do advise you to pack the gears with petroleum jelly so that the oil pump will prime when you start it
