Both front control arms are completely loose. It appears that each side has two bushings that secure the control arm. The bushings are not very expensive, and it appears like it should be relatively simple for a mechanic from what I can see.
1) Are special tools required for this procedure?
2) How are the bushings secured under compression? Is a special tool needed?
3) Is it common to need anything other than the bushings replaced in the course of this procedure?
I am currently unemployed, so money is tight. I am guessing this should be a simple and pretty inexpensive fix as repairs go.
4) Would you definitely recommend having a mechanic do this?
I have done brakes and some other simple procedures, but if this requires special tools, or could be dangerous due to compression of the arm (using a hydraulic jack from below), or if the bushings can get damaged easily during installation, I probably do not want to try this.
