what all can cause da car to run hot, and will a car stop if it is very low on oil?

Poor coolant condition, low coolant level, cooling fans not working, cooling system leaks allowing air into the system, bad water pump, restriction in the cooling system, excessive debris buildup in radiator cooling coils, blown head gasket, cracked cylinder head, ect..... You should not run it low on oil.
