1995 Buick Lesabre Throttle Position Sensor Replacement

I replaced the tps after the engine began racing or dying at just about any moment. I removed the old one then put the new one in without any other action. The next day it started happening again. The engine began racing or dying. Is there something I need to do other than take it out and replace it? e.g. disconnect the battery??
