i was just wondering, where is the magnet located for the cam shaft position sensor to read.and if the magnet is gone would that make my car not be able to accelerate rapidly through the range of gears.

The camshaft position sensor is a magnet and reacts to a timing point on the camshaft to send info to the ECM with regard to the cams relative position.

However, I would not focus on the CPS unless you are getting an error code pointing to it, in which case it would most likely be the sensor not the camshaft.

I would suspect fuel pressure, ignition, unless you are getting a specific error code.

I would find a shop that can scan OBDI cars in live data mode. Check the ignition reference pulse.

Also inspect all wiring connections to the ignition for wear/missing insulation. Have the ign. module tested at most autoparts stores for free.
