Tappet noise

I have a 2001 Buick Century and the tappets are rather loud for the first minute or two. Then they quiet down. This is just the opposite of what normally should happen. When the engine is cold and the oil is thick (viscosity) the moving parts in the motor have thicker oil in them and the motor should be quiet. Why the tappets clatter is a mystery unless the hydraulic lifters dont pump up real fast. Let me know if you find anything out.

OK, in most newer vehicle the noise you are hearing are the Fuel Injectors. It is common.

Now, you say you mechanic has changed the Springs and Valve twice. Did your mechanic concider changing the lifters?

As your vehicle sits most of the oil will drain down into the pan. when you start your vehicle the oil needs to be pumped up through the engine so, there will be a tapping noise for a few seconds after start up.
