Buick Century Computer

2002 Buick Century...Replace the console with a used one. The used one shows 90K miles. The car only had 50K. I was told by the dealer that I had to bring it in so that they could put it on the computer to claibrate the mileage. They added that it might not work. Since it will cost me $100, does anyone know if this computer will correct the mileage? Or if there is another way to do this.

When you say console I think that you mean you replaced the cluster.(the gauges) If this is the case the dealer will not be able to put in the correct mileage. The cluster will have to be sent out to a certified repair center that can put the correct mileage in. I work for a GM dealer and there are no means avaible for us to change a cars mileage. The mileage is not stored in any module in the car and it is retained by the IP cluster....

Thanks for your help. Glad I didn't do that, I would have been upset!!! Especially since they made a point to tell me that "....it may or may not work.....They knew it wouldn't work, just as well as you did". Actually ended up changing the resistors on the old cluster, which fixed the original problem. You would think that GM would have known that was the issue. Obviously charging a customer $600 to install a new cluster is alot more profitable than spending 2.00 on 6 new resisters and some solder. Two more reasons to absolutely despise dealer repair shops!!! Thanks for your help.
