1998 Buick Century tempurature gauge goes above mid point

when sitting in traffic my tempuratue gauge goes past the mid point i have no leaks in the cooloing system it has been preasure tested good my electric fans work only when i put the ac on shouldnt they also come on when the temp reaches a certain point?
the thermostat has also been tested good im thinking either a temp sensor or a fan control module
any help would be appriciated

I believe it is your engine coolant temperature sensor. It is located at top left side of engine, below the throttle body. Looks like this.

Using a digital multimeter, check resistance of the sensor.
