My question is...

last week my car started having problems. The speedometer jumps up and down when pushing on the gas. Once i let my foot off the gas it registers the right speed. Along with this, the car desides to put itself into whatever gear it wants. I try to accellerate and it puts it into a higher gear so I cant gain any speed. It's not making any unusual noises when it changes gears. A friend said it might be the cars computer going haywire, but I dont know. I really hope its not actually the transmission. Any thoughts?

I POSTED THE ABOVE PREVIOUSLY BUT RECEIVED NO ANSWERS.

UPDATE.

Ok, so i took my buick in to Midas for an oil change and a diagnosis of the problem. They hooked up their scope, but because the check engine light isnt coming on, the car doesnt think there is a problem so the scope finds nothing wrong.

The mechanic said he thought it was the transmission speedometer sensor so we had that replaced and nothing changed. The buick still has the problem. He thought it could be some wheel inside the transmission is missing a tooth, but because the car doesnt have problems until it warms up and progressivly gets worse the longer its driven, he said its too inconsistant to be that wheel. So now theyre in there checking all the wires and connections but so far they havent found anything. The mechanic thinks it may actually be the computer malfunctioning, but doesnt want to replace it if he isnt 100% sure that it is the problem because its very expensive and my POS buick isnt worth that repair. Theyve had it for 3 days now and this guy is determined to figure out what is wrong but isnt having much luck. He even questioned the local buick dealer's mechanic and he didnt have a clue what it may be if it wasnt the speed sensor.

(if it is the computer, can that be yoinked out of a junkyard buick century and used, or will that mess everything up? or what? HELP! LoL)

PLEASE any suggestions may be helpful at this point. I'm ready to put it into nuetral and push it off a cliff because if it isnt fixed, there is absolutely no trade in value to it and all i have is a 2000lb hunk of scrap plastic in my garage.

UPDATE

ok so the guy at midas finally got a code off the car but still cant figure out exactly what is wrong.

P0502 - Vehicle Speed Sensor Low Input

Since the sensor was replaced and it didnt change anything, what does this mean? what fixes it?

Your Midas guy may be right. It could be your PCM. Check your email for the diagnostic.

Ask him if he is also getting P0705 as well.
