Engine problem
1991 Buick Century V6 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 195000 miles

Ok, When I start the car there is a loud knocking noise that sounds as if it is coming from inside the engine. The car is approximately 3-4 thousand miles past the oil change time. (just bought the car) The noise only occurs when it is idling. When I apply gas or drive away it shifts and runs fine with no noise. I asked the guy at auto zone and he said it is most likely my lifters and recommended an oil change and sold me some fluid to "quiet noisy lifters" Does anyone have experience with this kind of thing? please respond.
