1988 Buick Century replace

1.Loosen the wheel lug nuts. Raise and support the car, then remove the wheel.
2.Clean the brake drum surface with a commercially available cleaning product, to remove the brake dust.
3.Remove the drum. If it cannot be slipped off easily, check to see that the parking brake is fully released. If so, the brake shoes are probably locked against the drum. If the drum will still not come off, spray some penetrating lubricant where the drum meets the hub. If necessary, tap gently using a rubber mallet on the outer rim of the drum and/or around the inner drum diameter by the hub.

4.After removing the brake drum, wipe out the accumulated dust with a cloth saturated with brake cleaning fluid.




WARNING
Do not blow the brake dust out of the drums with compressed air or lung-power. Brake linings may contain asbestos, a known cancer causing substance. Dispose of the cloth used to clean the parts after use.

5.Inspect the drums for cracks, deep grooves, roughness, scoring, or out-of-roundness. Replace any drum which is cracked.
6.Install the drum. Install the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
7.Lower the vehicle, then tighten the lug nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (140 Nm).
