When I put my car into reverse it jerks hard. All forward cars seem to shift fine. Is the tranny on the way out or is there something I can do?

Hi:
If the trans is shifting fine in all forward gears, chances are it is ok. However, if the filter is very dirty, it may have to build pressure to go into reverse. The first thing I would try is having the trans pan / filter serviced.
