My father-in-law gave my wife a Buick Century Station Wagon very nice little car. The service engine soon light goes on only when she is park waiting for my daughters and then goes off when she gives it some gas. Also the idle seems to be low.

Welcome to the forum. Check trouble codes. Maybe an 02 sensor code? If this vehicle has a carb, I'd put a carb kit in it. The adjustment specs, come with the carb kit.

How long since a regular tune-up?

It only does this once a day. I did a tune up about a week ago spark plugs and wires. I also put new radiator, smog pump and alternator and changed the oil. It runs great. This started happening after I did this and changed out some old vacuum lines out.

Sounds like you've done some good up-keep on it. I'd check codes.

If the datalink connector looks like the picture, you place a jumper wire between the A & B terminals, turn the key till the dash lites come on, no further. The check engine lite starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes.
