I am thinking about buying a car that has a broken rod. it blew a hole through the oil pan. I have a few questions. 1. How much does it cost to fix this problem? 2. Is it worth $550.00? 3. How much would I actually be paying for the car? 4. What is the difficulty of fixing it?

There is no telling what other damage has happened to that engine, but rest assured that there is probably more than one broken rod. Plus, the rods connect directly to the crankshaft and basically means that the whole engine would have to be disassembled and rebuilt, if it is even rebuild-able. Could be $2,000.00 and$3,000.00 to fix it. Frankly, that engine is not worth fixing. Your cheaper bet would be to buy a used engine and have it put in there. Around here, depending on the condition of the used engine, it would be about $500.00 to buy it and another $500.00 to have it installed at the locally owned small mechanics shop. Plus incidentals (engine mounts, belts, pulleys, various nuts and bolts, etc).
