Brakes are making a scraping noise

Hi,

Is it loud enough to record and upload so I can hear it? By nature, you shouldn't hear them when applied. Often times, that is the result of the type of brake pad that is used.

Does the noise go away when you press the brake pedal? If so, we need to measure runout on the hub face. The scraping noise that is not just a constant noise but sounds almost like a skipping record on a record player then that is because as the rotor turns the high spots make contact with the pads more and cause a noise.

We are going to need to access the hub and use a dial indicator. If the hubs do not have excessive runout then I suspect this is normal if it has always done it and never changed.

It's only audible when I press on the brake pedal. The brakes work perfectly so I suppose the noise is normal for this car. I never had a car that did this unless something was wrong with it. Thanks for your reply.

You are welcome. Just to make sure, you only hear the noise when the vehicle is moving correct, or is it only when the accelerator is pressed? So if you are moving and let up on the accelerator and coast down the road the noise is gone?

If it is only there when moving, I would agree that it is normal.
