Brake noise/feel.

2010 hyundai genesis coupe, 3.8 V6. Hi there, i have a problem with my brakes. Often but not always when brake slowing down from more than about 15km/h, as well as when I am holding down the brake pedal on a steep down hill. It's an almost clunking sound, loud enough to hear from inside the car, and sounds like a possible pump rattling. At first I thought possibly something lodged in the brembo calipers and rotors, checked all of them, nothing there. Also, can't be something rotational because the sound is present when i am completely stopped on a steep downhill, holding down the brake at a stop. I thought possibly it was a faulty ABS pump, but my ABS has been
working fine AND i took out the abs fuse and the sound and feel was still there. Been trying to figure this out for 3 months now, checked every forum i can find looked at every video tried looking for brake problems and backtracking from there but nope can't find anything. If you have any idea or need anymore information please let me know I'm becoming really frustrated. Thanks guys :)

Just a thought,

As I tuned into, It's doing this at a standstill!

Maybe your engine/ transmission mounts are deteriorated.

Holding the brakes on a hill may be allowing the engine to 'over-torque' one direction or another (move more than it should) and something is rubbing the frame/ fender/ etc. like a pulley

You may can check this by standing beside, NOT IN FRONT! of the car!

STAND BESIDE!

Hood up, have your buddy PUSH THE PARKING BRAKE and also HOLD THE BRAKES CONTINUOUSLY

Shift from forward to reverse a few times, does the engine move excessively? Anything rubbing?

Hey CJ, thanks for the advice. First off, having limited time and no hill near me, I was only able to try on a flat standstill, I'll try on a hill this weekend. SO I got my 8 year old brother to watch himself as well as take a video, and as i was shifting from reverse to first and back, minimal whole engine/ tranny movement was occurring. Watched some videos on bad mounts and didn't seem a fraction as bad on mine, seemed pretty normal to me. BUT i don't doubt this is a possibility as after reading a bit on symptoms, it was mentioned understeering may be a result, AND i am noticing slight understeering to the right when driving. Will try on a hill this weekend, will post results. THANKS The Medic, really really appreciated!!!

Hi guys. Here's something else to consider. There is a tool you might be able to borrow or rent from an auto parts store that borrows them called the "Chassis Ear". It is a set of six microphones, a switch box, and headphones. You clip the microphones to suspect points, then drive around while listening with the headphones. You can move the microphones around to zero in on the source of the noise. Be aware that many mechanics have never seen or even heard of this tool. Suspension and alignment mechanics use it to find rattles, squeaks, and other noises.

Some ABS systems provide the power brake assist, and the pump might run even when the rest of the system is disabled. The clue is it will turn off within ten to 20 seconds, and should not turn on again until you pump the brake pedal a few times. Also consider a pulsing emissions system valve. They are mounted on a rubber isolator that can dry-rot and deteriorate, then the noise gets transmitted into the passenger compartment.
