They stay on while driving and go off when I hit the brakes. Also, my cruise control stopped working at the same time.

Sounds like you have a brake pedal switch issue that would explain why the cruise control is inoperative.the brake switch is up under the dash under the brake pedal. i would look at it while stepping on the brakes and see if you can see anything weird going on. Could just be a bad switch.
