Recently I replaced my hydro booster. i forgot to plug my brake light switch back up and fixed the problem, but every time I plug my switch back up it locks my shifter and wont come out of park. i have replaced my brake light switch and checked my cruse, and brake fuses but all look good. i don't have any lights coming up on the dash. i don't know what else could be causing the shifter to lock up when I plug the switch up.

Hi,

Interestingly, the brake light switch is what powers the park lock solenoid to release. Are the brake lights working properly when it's attached? Also, when the brake light switch is disconnected, that is the only time the park lock releases?

It sounds like an adjustment issue. Take a look at the attached pic. Make sure everything is together correctly. Also, pay attention if the brake lights are turning on when the brake is applied.

Let me know.

I took your advice and adjusted the switch to where I can hear it engaging and disengaging when I'm on and off the brake pedal, but the lights still wont come on. and yes the shifter is only stuck in park when the switch is plugged in.

Hi,

That's interesting. We need to start at the beginning. I attached two pics below indicating relevant fuses for the brake lights. I need you to check them and make sure there is power both in and out. I suspect we may have a ground issue causing power to back feed to the park lock actuator.

I also want you to check for power to the orange wire at the brake light switch. Additionally, check to see if there is power out from the switch at the white wire when the brake switch is actuated.

Pic 1 fuse is under the hood fuse box. Pic 2 is in the vehicle left side under dash. Pics 3 and 4 show fuse locations.

Here is a link you may find helpful when checking the fuses for power:

Let me know what you find.
