My friend who knows nothing about vehicles is complaining of his front left brake making metal on metal noise. I have done brakes for MKII and MKIII VWs and newer Chevrolet vehicles. I have never worked on Dodge vehicles. Is there a special tool required for the front brakes? Also, I read in several forums of people complaining of having problems with them.

Are they a regular brake system for replacement or do they have any individual replacement characteristics I should be aware of?

There really isn't anything different. They all work on the same principal. However, I recommend opening the bleeder on the caliper when depressing the piston.
