Had new starter assembly and new alternator installed today. Drove a block away from the garage and the tachometer went crazy. We had no issue with the Tachometer prior to this installation. Mechanics tell us there was no problem after they tested the car. Tachometer bounces back and forth with the needle going ultimately off scale while in idle and while driving with no engine irregularity. What could be causing this problem? Took car immediately back to the servicing garage and the mechanics tell us we have to leave the car for further testing because they can't figure what's causing the problem.

MAYBE THIS MIGHT GET YOU FIXED UP

IF THE BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED

WITH THE CAR OFF!

TAKE THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES, THEN HOOK IT BACK UP.

GOOD LUCK!

LEMME KNOW IF IT WORKED

Thanks for your help. Woke to find car wouldn't start at all. When assistance arrived from tow shop, the battery was given a "hot shot". The tow driver noticed a bolt that was missing a nut (which held the grounding wire from the starter). The Sparks were flying from the specific area when the battery started to get charged. All of this!...after having it back twice to the servicing garage! The mechanics at the garage apologized...telling us they had a man in training work on the car and the supervisor did not inspect the work closely enough.
