trunk not opening

My boot recently started playing up and eventually would not open at all. When i started to try and diagnose it i noticed that when i opened the handle the rear wiper started moving. I found it was a common fault with these cars and the cables had split causing a short in the flexible part of the wiring where the boot enters the car. I have soldered all the wires back together and stopped the short to the wiper but the boot release still will not work and i am aware that there is no fuse for this, only one for the CCM? that would be my next check? i do have twelve volts getting to the release latch itself so I am not sure what else could be the problem?
