Does a replacement Body Control Module need to be programmed?

Hello,

You will have to fit a new or remanufactured BCM. A used BCM already has a pre-programmed VIN and is mated to the donor vehicle. This cannot be overwritten.
If you fit a used BCM the vehicle will not start, and the mileage will be incorrect

Programming can be performed by your local Chevrolet dealer or any independent shop with passthrough availability

BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) REPLACEMENT
If the body control module (BCM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed in the following order:
BCM Reprogramming-Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Computer/Integrating Systems.
Learning the restraints ID-Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Computer/Integrating Systems.
Theft Learn-Refer to Programming Theft Deterrent System Components in Theft Deterrent. A new BCM will learn the Pass lock information automatically, but the PCM must still learn the theft information from the BCM.
Program Key Fobs-Refer to Transmitter Programming in Keyless Entry.
