2006 BMW Z4 BMW Warranty

I just took my bmw to get its maintenance covered under warranty. They changed my oil and filter and that about it. I just got a brake pad light on my car which means that I need to replace my brakes pad and/ or my sensor - probably both.

How long do brake pads generally last?
