popping noise coming from the wheels

My girlfriend just bought a 2005 BMW Z4 2.5i. There is a definitive 'popping' noise coming from the wheel wells in the front of the car whenever she goes over speed bumps. I believe that the brake need to be replaced ?

Here is the information you requested. It sounds like the popping noise could possibly be a noise coming from the front struts. This is a tutorial showing what is involved on how to change front brake pads and brake rotors:
