unintended acceleration

This is a diesel if it makes any difference. What is the preferred method of action if there is a runaway. I tried a slow test and found the engine turned off by pushing the start button but it automatically went into park. Lucky no damage. What happens if you try to push the gear selector into neutal at speed? or will brake always work to over ride
engine even at high speed? Suggestions? The normally very good dealer had none.

The strategy used in the electronics that control the powertrain is fairly robust and the Japanese carmaker that is having problems is not anything like BMW. The strategy uses plausibility to determine throttle application with two potentiometers reading opposite each other and if a brake application is perceived with any throttle application, the throttle is reduced to idle straightaway.
