Yesterday I noticed that oil was leaking from my 2006 X5 4.4i. I checked and found that it is coming from the hoses connected to the Power Steering reservoir tank marked “ATF OIL ONLY”. The dealer told me that it is going to cost about $500 to replace both hoses connected to the tank (intake and outtake hoses). Is it really that expensive to replace the hoses? Can I take it to a local shot and get them replaced instead of getting done at BMW dealer?

Thanks,
B

The dealer does not have the only game in town, of course you can go somewhere else. Call around and see what it costs at the independents in your area.

Ok...thanks. I was just trying to figure out if this job can be performed by a non bmw dealer...some stuff is better done by the BMW dealer while others can be done outside the BMW shop.

Do you by any chance know what part number for the hose or when i can lookup online? This will help me determine the cost for the parts...etc.

Thanks,

That seems about right for the dealer. 300% mark-up to keep the doors open, when is that going to catch up with them?
