My question was:

2005 BMW X5 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual 32000 miles

Is there any written repair documentation, spec, etc. to show that, after a rear-end collision, as a safe repair practice, the rear impact absorbers need to be replaced by default, as once compromised, they cannot warranty anymore the safery of the body and passengers in a subsequent rear-end collision?

If the repair facility did neglect replacement of failed components and it was obvious to the eye of a layperson such as yourself then go back and compel them to do their job, threaten them with legal action. As to the word from BMW, my computer is in storage and I am posting on my wife's computer. When I get mine from storage, I can quote you chapter and verse from BMWs own database, stand-by mate it could be a week or less (I hope)

Thanks for the prompt answer. At this point there is not yet an issue of leagal action but rather a technical, safety issue.
A BMW document to show that replacing the impact absorbers is part of the repair procedure or the impact absorbers are part of a repair kit for rear end collision - would be of great help to me. If it is even more specific - for 2005 X5, that would be even better.

I am getting closer to the point in time when I would need to substantiate my position (see original Question) with a specialists' documented answer, be it a CarPros opinion or "rule of thumb", a BMW repair spec or procedure (important!), NHTSA or IIHS articles on the subject, etc. or all of the above.

Hello Dr. Hagerty,
I am in conflict with an insurance company who refuses to consider the safety aspect of the repair, i.e. the impact absorbers. I had them always replaced in the past rear collision events involving other cars, w/o any argument from whomever was then the insurer.
As I mentioned previously, in absence of a BMW repair procedure, a "2carpros" professional opinion would help.
