What is the procedure for replacing the battery on my 2004x5 3.0i. Are there any fuses, relays, etc that need to be disconnected prior to replacing the battery to prevent any damage to electronics, etc?

No, just take out the spare tire to access the battery and replace it with a new one, Interstate is a good choice.
