The "service engine soon" light has been on quite awhile in my car and one day while i was driving and I was at a stop.. and when it was time to go my car slowly move forward like in a choking movement. I then pulled over shut off then turn on engine and it started right away but now the "abs" and "brake light" are all light up. and the car is running fine. This already happened to me 2x within 2 wks time. Pls help, what do i need to get repair?

The vehicle will require scanning to determine the extent of the repairs required. It may be related to the DSC system.

i had a friend did the scanning he used a OBDII, and the outcome is bmw factory code 143. Any idea what it is..
he recommend that i change the gas cap. do you think that will cause the car to stall?

No it wont make the car stall. It might be a cam sensor but since I dont reference the factory number 143 to any particular failure, that information is useless to me as it appears in you response. If you could scan the car with a generic OBDII scanner and report the P code, that will help me. If you clear the code, how long until it comes back on? It is possible the fault is P0143 and if so, the O2 sensor supply voltage is taking a little excursion, inspect the wiring and connectors first, I also seem to recall a bulletin regarding this issue and reflashing the DME was the repair request from BMW warranty administration. Also consider replacement of both pre-cat O2 sensors and resetting adaptations.

Yes, thank you for the quick response. The fault reads for a gross leak detection,as if the gas cap was left off. Replacement of the cap may be needed, but are you sure that's where it is coming from? Try reinstalling the cap and clear the faults. Then drive the car and see if the check engine light stays out.

Since my last post, I had the 2- O2 sensor and the gas cap replaced.
The car has been running fine until last week. The car would choke and not run. I had to shut engine off and re-start, brake, abs and service engine lights come on then i would be able to drive the car...
but the next time i would use the car those lights are off.. This happened 2x last week.
