my front diff has just started to make a clunking noise and it wants to lock up so it looks like i need a replacement ,what i wanted to know was does the 3.0 d front diff fit my 4.4i petrol any advice i would be greatfull of thankyou.

The 3.64 ratio is unique to the V-8 4.4 2001 X5 as is the front differential. The diesel uses a 3.07 ratio and would not be suitable due to that fact alone.

does anyone know where i can get my diff referbed and how much it will cost i would remove it myself.

A salvage yard is a good place to pick up the hard parts, like a differential. Look on the internet, or Google it.
