mirror hanging on side of door?

1999 BMW M3 6 cyl Manual 30000 miles

Came out of store and mirror hanging on side of door no apparent damage looks like I can just press it back on not sure if I will damage anything any suggestions, or do I just buy a new one?

The side view mirrors are secured by a locking plate that is on the mirror. Is it still there? If not the mirror may require replacement.
