I ahve a 1995 bmw m3 coupe. he power windows sometime go back down (from going up) when I have the switches in the up position. They get about four inches from he top and go back down. I have to joggle the switches a few times back and forth (up and down) until they finally go up. Any ideas? I it the switches? I was told to try a reset, but this has been going on the drivers side for about a year longer than the passenger side.

There are several possibilities. It sounds like the anti-trap is too sensitive and is commanding the window back open during closure, just in the last 4" of travel, is that right? First try reinitializing both sides by opening the windows all the way and holding the "open" button for 30 seconds, then they should express close and the window should drop an inch when the doors are opened which is normal operation. If no joy there it may need to have a "master battery reset"(a fancy name for disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes) and then try reinitializing the windows again, be sure to have your radio code if the original radio is still installed. The other possibility is that the motor is in need of replacement as the anti trap sensors are within the motor/gearbox.

windows won't go pass beyond a certain point. And cleaning the channel makes a big difference.

Sounds like anti-trap reversing your windows. Check the window glass for excess play, if the window regulator is worn it can cause the glass to hang up kicking in anti-trap protection.

The anti- trap is in the current sensing circuitry in the window regulator and it(the motor itself) may require replacement.
