1997 BMW 740 Battery Getting Hot

1997 BMW 740 V8 Automatic 123000 miles

My battery started getting really hot and smelled real bad. The battery is only about a year old. Also some of the lights on my dashboard are flickering. Any advice?

Most likely the internal regulator in the alternator has malfunctioned, and it is over charging the battery, that will ruin the battery, the lights flickering is most likely caused by a low battery or a bad connection. If your battery is overcharging. I'm sure the terminals are corroded with the black residue that is a bad connection.
